Mechanic accused of scamming job seeker

September 29, 2025

The Manchester police have charged 32-year-old Martin Moxey, otherwise called 'Demon', a mechanic and farmer of Toll Gate, Clarendon, with obtaining money by means of false pretence following an incident that occurred on Perth Road, Mandeville, in the parish.

Reports from the Mandeville police are that Moxey was introduced to a woman through her brother, purporting to be an employee of the Ministry of Labour and Social Security who is responsible for the overseas work and travel programmes. It is alleged that at midday on August 19, the woman showed interest in the job prospects, and was instructed by Moxey to pay $130,000 to a commercial bank in May Pen, Clarendon. The woman was also instructed to provide personal documents, to which she complied. Upon completion, the woman was told that she would receive a call from the head office for an interview date. However, she did not receive any call. The woman made several attempts to contact Moxey, but all efforts proved futile.

On September 23, Moxey learnt that he was a person of interest and was asked to turn himself in. He complied, doing so at the May Pen Police Station, before subsequently being escorted to the Mandeville Police Station. An identification parade was conducted last Friday and Moxey was positively identified.

He was later charged with the offence; however, his court date has not been finalised.
