Baby fatally stabbed in domestic dispute in Suriname, relative arrested

A one-year-old baby was fatally stabbed during a domestic dispute in Cocobiacoweg, on the outskirts of Paramaribo, Suriname, Thursday night.

Police say they received a report that a man armed with a knife was assaulting his wife and children. When officers and paramedics arrived, the report that they found the infant had suffered stab wounds and died despite efforts to save her.

Investigators say a cousin of the child's father was arrested at the scene. The mother and other individuals were treated by emergency responders.

The Suriname Police Force has launched a full investigation, working alongside Child Protection Services and Victim Support to determine what led to the baby's death.
